Tango
These caricatures were done in
a 1930s art deco style reminiscent of the work of Miguel Covarrubias in
Vanity Fair, ideal for the elegance of the tango, and appeared in the
Montreal tango magazine De Puro Guapo. To the left, above, is Anibal
Troilo, tango composer and orchestra conductor during the 40s whose
creative vision paved the way for an evolving, exploring tango that
brought others into the fold, including the inner city jazz tango of
Astor Piazzola. And, to his right, Luciana Valle, a contemporary dancer
renown for her innovative, fluid dancing style.
The bandoneon player is Nestor Marconi, an
Argentine composer of magical, modern tango and, to his right ,
Francisco Canaro, a prolific tango composer with over 500
interpretations to his name that established the dance, and the music,
worldwide.
